Providence Kamana
Musical Artist, Singer, Songwriter, Youth Advocate & Entrepreneur.
Born in Goma, North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Providence has spent his whole life surrounded by the rhythms and sounds of his people. From a young age the hymns of his church filled his heart with passion and he knew music was his calling. With the guidance of Alexia Waku, Beverly Bynes and Kelly Nazem, Providence began performing, and audiences took notice of his talent. Best Vocalist at the Elanga Festival of Kinshasa, 2012. 3rd place on Airtel Trace Music Star – think, the American Idol tv show of the Congo in 2015.
Building upon his successes Providence soon established the Congolese American Language Institute Mass Choir in Kinshasa which has helped more than 2oo Congolese youth learn English through music; and PK Music, a foundation which supports emerging artists through grants, resources and mentorship to further his own musical training. To further his own training, Providence enrolled in the National Institute Of Arts where he studied Music and specialized in ethnomusicology.
Upon arriving in the United States in 2016, Providence has continued to share his musical gifts in his new, Western Washington community through: establishing the Harvest Band and Highline Mass Choir; writing and producing the official census Song for the Washington Census Alliance; collaborating with local artists, creating music videos, teaching singing classes, leading worship, and performing in different venues across the state.
The African Diaspora of the Northwest has declared Providence one of the genuine, young talents. He plays the piano, guitar, bass and sings. He is passionate about helping youth and serves as an Assistant Director at Tacoma Refugee Choir and as the Youth Program Coordinator and Child Refugee Advocate at the Congolese Integration Network in Seatac, Washington. Music is therapy.
