Darlington Calvin Nimely (Born May 18, 1991.) better known by the stage name Sylla Diamond is a hip hop/afrobeat international recording artist from Monrovia, Liberia. Sylla signed to Bentley records in 2018 and is currently still signed as an artist as of May 2021.
Sylla got his name from his grandfather Frank Sylla who worked as a gold miner in Liberia. Unfortunately, Sylla was born during a time when Liberia was going through a violent and unpredictable internal civil war. The Civil War ultimately forced him and his family out of their hometown and straight into the Buduburam refugee camp which was located in Accra, Ghana. The first Liberian civil war was an internal conflict in Liberia that lasted from 1989 until 1997. The conflict killed about 250,000 people and eventually led to the involvement of the economic community of the West African state and the United Nations. Once given the opportunity, Sylla and his family relocated to the United States and ended up re-settling in New Jersey in 2003 when he was only 15.
Growing up, Sylla’s most significant influences in the music industry were Tupac, Snoop Dog, and Jay-Z. When Sylla relocated to New Jersey, it wasn’t a rarity to see drugs in the streets and violence in the neighborhood. The violence and disenfranchised environment led Sylla on the wrong path by getting into some trouble of his own. Due to living in close proximity to Philadelphia, Sylla was heavily influenced by the battle rap scene in North Philadelphia and subsequently became a battle rapper on the underground circuit, battling numerous Hip-Hop artists on the streets of Philadelphia and ultimately making a name for himself. In 2014, Sylla decided to move to the United Kingdom, Europe to further pursue his music career and reunite with his family. While in London, Sylla linked up with the USG street artist known as Keko. Sylla quickly caught a buzz by being featured on a few local underground releases and had many performances throughout England and Glasgow, Scotland, where he would perform the record “Couple of Mill” which was later released on the “Spoken Truth” album.
Sylla Diamond dropped his début album in 2018 titled “Spoken Truth” which was distributed by Bentley Records/Universal. In 2020 Bentley Records released the single “Hot Scotch” which has gone Gold and sold over 500,000 copies.
In 2019, Sylla went on a 6 country tour in West Africa performing in Liberia, Morocco. Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Togo, where he performed his collaborative record “Super” on stage with well-known & featured Liberian artist Bucky Raw. He also performed “Couple of Mill” which was later released on “Spoken Truth.”Sylla is working on an upcoming album called “Refugees Crisis” which will be dropping this summer along with a new single titled “WAR BABY” produced byBy Shotta Bwoy (Jerk-Off ) & Andrew “AE” Either of The Tranzformaz Music Group (Intl).
